DAVIS IS FAVOURITE

Bookmakers have installed Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis as the favourite for the vacant Wolverhampton Wanderers job. The club was recently relegated from the Championship, thus putting them in League One.

This was the second successive relegation suffered by the club, as they were in the Premier league only just over 12 months ago. Since sacking the manager Mick McCarthy, the club has been one a downward spiral that has led them into the third division of English football. They recently sacked Dean Saunders after he failed to keep the club in the Championship.

They have been searching for a replacement for the last few weeks and it is understood that Davis is one of the top targets for the club. Davies has done an extremely good job at Crewe Alexandra, as he managed to get the club into lofty heights since taking over in 2011. He is an ardent supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers and it is understood that he is set to hold talks with the club's officials. Wolves have changed the managers four times in the last 15 months, and it is understood that they are looking for some stability from the next manager they appoint.

Davis has said that it is not a secret that he is a Wolves fans, but he is not holding any hopes right now.
"It's no secret I'm a Wolves fan. But I didn't anticipate to be anywhere near in terms of that job. I'd imagine they would look for someone fairly experienced. Obviously they are looking for someone who can change the philosophy of the club, change the way they play and get the players that can do that within the budgets and constraints after relegation," said the 47-year-old, whose managerial career started with Northwich Victoria back in 2003. Crewe Alexandra is the major club he has managed.
