BATTH WINS EXTENSION

The English defender Danny Batth has been given contract extension at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 23 years old centre back has been at the Wolverhampton ground since his childhood days. He had joined the club academy way back in 2000 and played for the youth team for some years before making his first team debut in 2009. It took him a few years to cement his place in the first team, but, in the last couple of seasons, he has been a regular member of the Wolverhampton squad.

Batth has so far made 38 league appearances for the Wolves and has found the back of the net on a couple of occasions.

The Wolverhampton CEO Mr. Jez Moxey told the reporters yesterday about Batth’s contract being extended.
Moxey said, “I am glad to announce that Danny is going to stay at Wolverhampton for another 3 seasons. He is a product of our academy and has been an amazing performer for us in the last couple of years. He has shown great professionalism not only on the pitch, but, off it as well.”

“Now that he has no worries about his future, I expect him to make further improvements in his game and continue to be a vital part of our squad.”

The reason Batth has played so less for the Wolves in the last 4 years is that he had been getting placed on loan quite frequently before the 2012-2013 Season. The previous season was the first one that he spent entirely at the Wolverhampton ground.

The three clubs that Batth has played for on loan so far are Colchester United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. But, it doesn’t seem that the Wolves management would place him on loan again in near future.

Jackett 'hurt' by their FA Cup exit

Wolves’ chief coach Kenny Jackett stated that he was really offended by 2 - 1 loss to Oldham on Tuesday night in their FA Cup 1st round replay. Kenny has the solace of seeing his team top of the League One chart. They just lost one time in 16 matches. Even without their key players Kevin Doyle, Bakary Sako and James Henry, he believes that Wolves let themselves down in this match.

According to reports, the Wolves coach told that there is much bigger picture overall, but this hurts. They should have done well with this team. Just less than one month ago, Wolves had defeated Oldham 2 – 0 in League One.

But, having then been booked 1 - 1 by Latics at the Boundary Park when these 2 teams were coupled together once again in the Cup. According to Kenny, Oldham deserved to win because they had more appetite for the match than they did. He added that people had chances and must have made better instances. Till the previous quarter, when they changed to a diamond, they did not get though the final 3rd.

Earlier the Wolves coach stated that on-loan Millwall footballer Henry would be out for some weeks with groin injury. However, he was not yet sure of the total extent of the hamstring injury of Sako. Kenny told that his hamstring is tight. He was left as a safeguard; therefore, they do not know as of now. He added that they would see whether he plays any part in the upcoming 3 games - against Peterborough, Brentford and Tranmere.

TOUGH TASK

Wolverhampton Wanderers have a tough task ahead of them this season in order to get out of the League One. Manager Kenny Jackett has said that people only need to look at the troubles faced by Sheffield United in their hopes of getting promotion to the Championship.

This will clearly explain the tough nature of this division despite what many think. Many assumed that it would be easy to get out of this division just because of the parachute payments that enrich clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United, who were relegated only recently.

Wolves have made a strong start to the campaign and are currently third in the league table. However, they were expected to totally dominate the division, but it has not happened. Leyton Orient have been the surprise package of the season so far and they are leading the table by a massive five points already. Sheffield United have been trying to get out of this division since 2011, but they have been unable to do so. Wolves were relegated only last season, but it was the second consecutive relegation for the club.

Jackett has praised Sheffield United by saying that they may be in the third division of English football, but they are one of the big clubs in England.

“It’s very early days and they’ve got some good players. The one thing you will see on Saturday is the support they generate and the size of their club because they’re a very big club, and that won’t cease. I’m sure they’ll be disappointed with their start but there are more than 100 points to compete for, so anything is still possible. It’s early in the season. They are a genuinely big club and their expectation level is big," said Jackett ahead of the meeting with Sheffield United during the weekend.

HENRY MOVES ON

Wolverhampton Wanderers recently lost the services of midfielder Karl Henry after he joined QPR for £ 1 million. The 30-year-old has been an influential part of the Wolves team over the years.

He was the former captain of the team, while also becoming the longest serving outfield player due to his years of service. After the club's relegation into the League One, it was highly speculated that Henry will be leaving Wolves. It has proven to be the case after the midfielder joined the recently relegated QPR by signing a two-year contract.

Kenny Jackett, who was appointed as the replacement for Dean Saunders, has said that he is confident that the club can cope without the influential midfielder. Since suffering the second consecutive relegation was going to be financially difficult for the club, Jackett placed a number of players like Jamie O'Hara and Henry on the transfer list. He reckons that the club will be able to replace them with younger players coming through the ranks. This will not only help the club bring substantial revenue through transfer fees, but it will also help them reduce the wages as well.

Wolves have made a good start to the pre-season under the regime of Jackett after they managed to win at another pre-season match.

"We wish him all the best. Personally I feel it was right for the club and right for the player to have a fresh challenge. On behalf of everyone at the club, I thank him for his service and we all wish him the very best at Queens Park Rangers. We have some young players admittedly in David Davis, Lee Evans and Jack Price, and also the experience of Kevin Foley. He's been somewhat of a utility player but still looked capable when he came on last night," said Jackett.

DAVIS IS FAVOURITE

Bookmakers have installed Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis as the favourite for the vacant Wolverhampton Wanderers job. The club was recently relegated from the Championship, thus putting them in League One.

This was the second successive relegation suffered by the club, as they were in the Premier league only just over 12 months ago. Since sacking the manager Mick McCarthy, the club has been one a downward spiral that has led them into the third division of English football. They recently sacked Dean Saunders after he failed to keep the club in the Championship.

They have been searching for a replacement for the last few weeks and it is understood that Davis is one of the top targets for the club. Davies has done an extremely good job at Crewe Alexandra, as he managed to get the club into lofty heights since taking over in 2011. He is an ardent supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers and it is understood that he is set to hold talks with the club's officials. Wolves have changed the managers four times in the last 15 months, and it is understood that they are looking for some stability from the next manager they appoint.

Davis has said that it is not a secret that he is a Wolves fans, but he is not holding any hopes right now.
"It's no secret I'm a Wolves fan. But I didn't anticipate to be anywhere near in terms of that job. I'd imagine they would look for someone fairly experienced. Obviously they are looking for someone who can change the philosophy of the club, change the way they play and get the players that can do that within the budgets and constraints after relegation," said the 47-year-old, whose managerial career started with Northwich Victoria back in 2003. Crewe Alexandra is the major club he has managed.
