Despite the widespread reports that English Premier League giants Manchester United were keen to sign Portugal international midfielder Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Red Devils never showed any real interest and also did not make any official bid for the player.

United signed at least a player from the goalkeeping department, the defensive and attacking departments but were not able to sign a single midfielder even though their fans were clamoring for them to bring in a new player for that position. One of the players that were linked with a move to Old Trafford was Ruben Neves and even though it looked like United were going to try to sign him, they did not.

In the goalkeeping department, Manchester United signed Tom Heaton from Aston Villa in what was a reunion between the goalkeeper and the club. They also signed French defender Raphael Varane from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid and as for the attacking department, Jadon Sancho (from Borussia Dortmund) and Cristiano Ronaldo (from Juventus) were the two new players that were brought in by Olé Gunnar Solksjaer as fresh attacking options at Old Trafford.
Neves was looking like he would be the only midfielder addition to the Red Devils' squad, but it was never meant to be and he is going to remain at the Molineux for at least till the January winter transfer window before making a move to another club.
Neves' teammate, Adama Traore, has been told by the club that they want to offer him a new contract to ward off interest from interested clubs in January. Wolves rejected two separate bids from Tottenham Hotspur for their 25-year-old winger as they deem him to be an important part of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad.
